Major computer manufacturers usually ship their computers with one or more hard drive data Recovery CDs (also known as hard drive Recovery CDs, hard drive Restore CDs or hard drive data Restore CDs). The IBM Thinkpad hard drive data Recovery CDs are specifically designed for your IBM computer, usually contain an image of what was on the computers hard drive when it was first bought, & they allow you to return the machine to its original state (as new). This is particularly useful if the machine has been attacked by a virus, if the original hard drive has developed a fault, or if you simply wish to replace or upgrade the hard drive, & need to re-install your original software.

The IBM Recovery CDs are also sometimes referred to as Windows installation CDs because they completely erase the contents of your hard drive & then re-install your operating system (Windows). However, they differ from normal Windows installation disks in that they usually Restore all programs which were originally installed on the hard drive when the computer was first purchased (any additional programs or files which were not originally installed will be overwritten).

If your PC has been attacked by a virus, or worse still; is infected with a virus which you cannot remove, the best course of action is often to re-install Windows from your IBM Recovery CDs & then install quality anti virus & anti spyware programs .

If your PC is running slowly, it could be due to a virus or Viruses. The computer could also be infected with spyware, malware or adware. If this is the case; repairing the current Windows installation will not help because the repair process will not remove infections. Re-installing Windows will wipe the hard drive & so will remove - delete viruses, malware, spyware or Adware & will also remove programs & utilities which may no longer be required.

Reinstalling Windows almost always allows the computer to "run faster" and the user can re-install the programs that they actually want & use.

If your computer has a faulty hard disk drive (eg; if the hard drive cannot be "seen" by the computer, if it has bad sectors, bad blocks or is making a clicking or loud whirling noise), the best course of action is usually to completely replace the hard drive & Restore Windows & the original software from your hard drive data Recovery CD. This process will usually involve replacing the hard drive & then placing the IBM Recovery CDs in the CD ROM or DVD ROM drive & re-booting the system. The computer should then boot from the IBM Recovery CDs & this will then return the computer to its original state (as new).

If your original IBM installation CDs / IBM hard drive data Recovery CDs are damaged (scratched, cracked etc), they should not be used as this can cause problems installing Windows, or Windows may appear to install successfully but you will experience difficulties at a later date. The IBM Recovery CDs will need to be replaced.

Note; If we do not have the correct hard drive data Recovery CDs in stock, we can often make new IBM installation CDs from your originals (even if the originals are damaged).

All IBM Thinkpad laptop computers need to use small programs called IBM Thinkpad Drivers. IBM Thinkpad Drivers simply tell the computer about items which are built into it (such as a IBM Thinkpad sound card driver; for producing sound, IBM Thinkpad video card driver for producing graphics etc), or attached to it (such as a scanner or printer). One of the advantages of owning a IBM Thinkpad laptop is that the hard drive data Recovery CD (hard drive data Restore CD) will usually contain IBM Thinkpad Drivers for all of the items which are built into it, & these are needed for the IBM Thinkpad laptop to work correctly.

Owners of IBM computers also own the licences to any software which was originally installed (including licences to Windows & all other applications).
