Dell Optiplex computers often ship with one or more Dell Optiplex Recovery CDs (also known as Dell Optiplex hard drive Recovery CDs, Dell Optiplex Windows Recovery CDs or Dell Optiplex hard drive restore CDs). The Dell Optiplex Recovery CDs are specifically designed for your Dell Optiplex computer, usually contain an image of what was on the Dell Optiplex computers hard drive when it was first bought (with the correct Dell Optiplex Drivers), & they allow you to return the machine to its original state (as new). This is particularly useful if the machine has been attacked by a virus, if the original Dell Optiplex hard drive has developed a fault, or if you simply wish to replace or upgrade the hard drive, & need to re-install your original software.

The Dell Optiplex Recovery CDs are also sometimes referred to as Dell Optiplex Windows installation CDs because they completely erase the contents of your hard drive & then re-install your operating system (Windows) with the Dell Optiplex Windows Drivers. However, they differ from normal Windows installation disks in that they usually restore all programs which were originally installed on the hard drive when the computer was first purchased (any additional programs or files which were not originally installed will be overwritten).

If your PC has been attacked by a virus, or worse still; is infected with a virus which you cannot remove, the best course of action is often to re-install Windows from your Dell Optiplex Recovery CDs & then install quality anti virus & anti spyware programs .

If your PC is running slowly, it could be due to a virus or Viruses. The computer could also be infected with spyware, malware or adware. If this is the case; repairing the current Windows installation will not help because the repair process will not remove infections. Re-installing Windows will wipe the hard drive & so will remove - delete viruses, malware, spyware or Adware & will also remove programs & utilities which may no longer be required.

Reinstalling Windows almost always allows the computer to "run faster" and the user can re-install the programs that they actually want & use.

If your Dell Optiplex computer has a faulty hard disk drive (eg; if the hard drive cannot be "seen" by the computer, if it has bad sectors, bad blocks or is making a clicking or loud whirling noise), the best course of action is usually to completely replace the hard drive & restore Windows & the original software from your Dell Optiplex Recovery CD.

This process will usually involve replacing the hard drive & then placing the Dell Optiplex Recovery CDs in the CD ROM or DVD ROM drive & re-booting the system. The computer should then boot from the Dell Optiplex Recovery CDs & this will then return the computer to its original state (as new).

If your original Dell Optiplex installation CDs / Dell Optiplex Recovery CDs are damaged (scratched, cracked etc), they should not be used as this can cause problems installing Windows, or Windows may appear to install successfully but you will experience difficulties at a later date. The Dell Optiplex Recovery CDs will need to be replaced.

All Dell Optiplex computers need to use small programs called Dell Optiplex drivers. Dell Optiplex drivers simply tell the computer about items which are built into it (such as a Dell Optiplex sound card driver; for producing sound, Dell Optiplex video card driver - Dell Optiplex Graphics driver for producing graphics etc), or attached to it (such as a scanner or printer). One of the advantages of owning a Dell Optiplex PC is that the Dell Optiplex Recovery CD or Dell Optiplex Restore CDs will usually contain Dell Optiplex drivers for all of the items which are built into it, & these are needed for the PC to work correctly.
