I went ahead and ordered a set of generic CDs from you anyway. Very prompt service.
The product key sticker is still firmly attached to the laptop, so the reinstall has gone fine. (Apart from the modem, which has failed to find a driver. No big deal, don't think it's ever been used.)
Usual thing, the hard drive failed, which is easy to replace, but no sign of any recovery CDs. I'm just grateful your company provides this service otherwise it would mean the cost of XP on top.

Just wanted to thank you for all your help, as currently we seem to have the perfect outcome. I have reinstalled Windows using your disk, and all the drivers that I think I need. Wireless is working properly, so is hibernate/standby, multiple screen displays, the DVD writer, etc. etc. Plus no more warning messages that the disk is overheating, so maybe CheckDisk had deleted a file that manages the fan (I have noticed the fan is suddenly more active again). For now, it looks as though I've got a wonderfully clean and fast and damage-free machine. Long may it last!
